Breastfeeding

Donor Breastmilk

Milk banks provide human milk for breastfed babies in Neonatal units who are premature or sick. They also provide milk for babies whose mothers are unable to breastfeed due to medical conditions or treatments such as chemotherapy.

If you would like your baby to have breastmilk but feel you may need the support of the milk bank please speak to your midwife who will be able to help.

If you are breastfeeding and producing more breastmilk than your baby can drink, you can donate excess milk to the milk bank. All donations are gratefully received.

Milk Donors Needed in Norfolk

Do you have breast milk surplus to your baby's needs?

It could be donated locally to The Hearts Milk Bank, a non-profit human milk bank which provides safe, screened donor milk to hospital neonatal intensive care units and families at home, supported by The Human Milk Foundation.

You may be able to donate if you:

  • Are a non-smoker
  • Have a minimum of 2 litres of milk, expressed within the last 10 weeks and frozen within 24 hours of being expressed
