How Might a Diagnosis Help My Child?

You might have been told by healthcare or education professionals that your child doesn't need a diagnosis to get support for their needs. This is true, reasonable adjustments must be made to support your child with their differences by law, and your child doesn't need to be on a waiting list or have a diagnosis to access this.

However, it can be difficult to understand and acknowledge the full extent of your child's differences, as many needs might not be fully identified until a qualified professional has carried out an assessment.

Not every family will want or choose to seek a diagnosis, and that's fine. It's up to each family to make the decision that best suits them. Below are some reasons that other parents have mentioned as to why they have sought a diagnosis for their children.
