School Height And Weight Checks

National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP)

The National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) measures the height and weight of children in Reception and Year 6 in schools across England. The information collected allows services to plan how to support families to lead healthy lives.

What Happens in Norfolk?

A specially trained member of the Healthy Child Service team will attend your child’s school to carry out the measurements.

  • The measurements are completed sensitively and in private. Your child is not told the results.
  • The results are kept confidential and are not shared with any teachers or other children.
  • You will be sent a letter if your child’s body mass index (BMI) centile, is not in the healthy range. This letter includes next steps with links to helpful information.
  • You are given the opportunity to opt your child out of the NCMP. Information about how to opt-out is given in a letter or email from your child's school.

If you would like to opt your child out of the NCMP or provide more information about your child before the school visit, please use the button below.
